Triphala

Triphalā त्रिफला

triphala cosmetic-relevant

The 'three fruits' — Haritaki + Bibhitaki + Amalaki in equal parts. Tridoshic; anti-Meha; anti-Kushtha; appetiser; eyesight-improving.

The single most ubiquitous Ayurvedic formula. Mixed in equal parts by weight: Haritaki + Bibhitaki + Amalaki.

Cosmetic uses:

  • Eye wash (Triphala decoction; the most classical eye-tonic)
  • Hair conditioning rinse (Triphala decoction post-shampoo)
  • Face wash powder (mixed with milk/honey)
  • Tooth powder (component of every Ayurvedic toothpowder)
  • Internal Rasayana (5 g at bedtime with warm water; anti-aging)

The three myrobalans together cover all three doshas — Haritaki (Vata), Bibhitaki (Kapha), Amalaki (Pitta), which is what makes Triphala tridoshic.
