Anti-Kapha & anti-fat; astringent; uterine / vaginal; anti-toxic; styptic — used in face-lepas for tightening, pore-reduction.

Sushruta Sutra 38: “Rodhra, Savararodhra, Palasha, Kutannata, Ashoka, Phanji, Katphala, Elabaluka, Sallaki, Jingini, Kadamva, Sala and Kadali. … Anti-Kapha and anti-fat; astringent; removes vaginal and uterine disorders; anti-toxic; styptic; purifying; arrests secretions and excretions.”

The astringent face-lepa group. Lodhra (Symplocos racemosa) bark is the namesake and the most-used member — it is in virtually every Sushruta and Charaka face-lepa for acne, oily skin, and pore-tightening. The Rodhradi-gana herbs are kashaya-rasa (astringent taste) almost universally, which is what makes them effective for shrinking pores and reducing sebaceous secretion.
