Lakshadi Gana
Lākṣādi-gaṇa लाक्षादि-गण
Anti-Kushtha + anti-Pitta + anti-Kapha; vermifuge; antiseptic ulcer cleaner — for medicated oils targeting skin disease.
Sushruta Sutra 38: “Laksha, Arevata (Aragvadha), Kutaja, Ashvamara (oleander), Katphala, Haridra, Daru-haridra, Nimba, Saptacchada, Malati and Trayamana. This consists of astringent, bitter and sweet tastes and acts as a good vermifuge and a purifying agent in cases of bad, malignant or indolent ulcers. Diseases due to the deranged Kapha and Pitta prove amenable to its curative properties, which extend to cases of cutaneous affections (Kushtha) as well.”
The anti-Kushtha medicated-oil group. The structural basis of Vajraka Taila, Maha-Vajraka Taila, and many of the Charaka Kushtha-cikitsa oils. Includes Laksha (an insect-derived lac resin) which gives the resulting oils a deep red colour and wound-healing properties.
