Khara Paka

Khara-pāka खर-पाक

paka

Also: hard cook, deep cook

The hardest correct end-point. Reached when:

  • The spent Kalka, dropped on a hot surface, hisses but does not crackle violently
  • The Kalka breaks like wax when cooled
  • The oil itself is deeply infused, sometimes resin-like in viscosity
  • Just short of any charred smell

Use case:

  • External Lepas for severe Kushtha (skin disease)
  • Vrana Ropana (wound healing) oils
  • Long shelf-life external preparations

Beyond Khara paka is Dahyamana (“being-burnt”) — the Kalka browns, smoke appears, the active compounds are destroyed. Discard immediately if you reach this stage.

For cosmetic-grade face and hair oils, stop at Madhyama paka, not Khara. Khara-paka oils are too transformed and lose their aromatic top notes.
