Dinacharya (daily routine)

Dinacaryā दिनचर्या

routine

Also: daily routine, morning protocol

The classical daily personal-care routine of Ayurveda. Three of the most foundational chapters in the Brihat Trayi are dedicated to this single topic:

  • Charaka Sutra Ch.5 (Matrashitiya) — defines the routine and its rationale
  • Sushruta Cikitsa Ch.24 (Anagatabadha-pratishedhaniya) — the operational details, 40,000+ words
  • Ashtanga Hridaya Sutra Ch.2 (Dinacharya) — the canonical synthesised version

The skipped-step modern version

For modern users, Charaka would still recognise the routine if you do:

  • (4) tooth-clean with herbal powder, (5) tongue-scrape with copper, (6) 1 Tbsp sesame oil gandusha for 15 min
  • (8) Rasanjana or natural-pigment kohl
  • (9) 2 drops of Anu Taila in each nostril
  • (12) 30-40 ml of Mahanarayana Taila abhyanga before bath
  • (14) Triphaladi or besan-based Udvartana in place of soap
  • (15) Warm water bath, cool water rinse for the head

This is the minimum-viable cosmetic Dinacharya, achievable in under an hour. Effects accumulate over weeks.
