Functions

varnyarefrigerantwound-healinganti-Pitta

One of the Varnya 10.

⚠️ Identity note. Charaka cites “Tunga” — most lineages identify this as Calophyllum inophyllum (Indian laurel / tamanu). Some Kerala lineages identify Punnaga as Mesua ferrea (which is more commonly Naga-keshara) — context disambiguates. Modern cosmetic-trade Punnaga is Calophyllum.

The seed oil (tamanu oil) is a modern dermatology favourite — wound-healing, antimicrobial, regenerative. The flower is used in classical face lepas.
